| Notes for Elizabeth ORRAN | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| [SHELTONS TINA.FTW] Mt. Lebanon Church Elizabeth's last name variants: Oran, Oren, Orand. (Single and double "R"s) The bondsman for her marriage was a William Orran (father? brother? uncle? grandfather? - relationship unknown). Elizabeth is listed in the 1860 Webster county, Kentucky census in household #205/201 with her husband. Elizabeth is mentioned in the obituary for David Oglesby, her grandson, as having lived 108 years. she was called "Betty Shelton Oren". According to my gr-grandfather, Edward Bailey's biography, his "mother's father was an Englishman, his wife and Irish girl. They came to the US on the same boat and married when they got off the boat." -written October 4, 1952 in Claremore, Oklahoma | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes for Josiah Cyrus (Spouse 1) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| [SHELTONS TINA.FTW] SOURCE: Son, John W.'s manuscript. According to the family genealogy written by Josiah's youngest son, John, Josiah was born in 1800, and married at the age of 19 (which would be in 1819). Marriage records indicate that Josiah married in 1822 (if 19, born in 1802), so there are some descrepancies between actual records and the documentation of John Shelton. More accurate records are necessary to pin down the true date of birth for Josiah. (3-6-2000) Josiah and Elizabeth moved to Kentucky in 1837 according to their son, John W. Shelton. (3-6-2000) Checking the marriage bond records for North Carolina, Josiah is listed with an Elizabeth Orran, marriage date given, and bondsman is a William Orran, most likely Elizabeth's father. A copy of the marriage bond was sent to me by cousin, Waunell Murphy. Josiah signed this bond along with William Orran.(2-5-2000) Josiah is listed in the 1830 Rockingham county, NC Federal census. Josiah was granted 100 acres of land about 1838 in Henderson county on Deer Creek. Survey date was 5-15-1838.THE KENTUCKY LAND GRANTS Volume 1 Part 2 CHAPTER X. GRANTS IN THE COUNTY COURT ORDERS (1836-1924) THE COUNTIES OF KENTUCKY page 1682 1840 KY census shows Josiah living in Henderson Co., KY. Sarah, his mother, must have come to Kentucky with Josiah because a female of her age is listed in this census in his household. He is listed between the ages of 41 & 50. Josiah is listed in the 1850 Federal Census in Henderson County, Kentucky. He is listed as 59 yrs old. Josiah is listed in the 1850 Federal Census in Henderson County, Kentucky. He is listed as 61 yrs old. Josiah is listed in the 1860 Federal Census in Webster county, Kentucky in household #205/201.
