| [SHELTONS TINA.FTW] William bought 80 acres of land in Halifax County, Virginia in 1763 on the north side of the Dan River for ten shillings. The land adjoins the land of Green. William is listed in the 1767 tithables taken by John Wilson in Pittsylvania county, VA. William bought 198 acres of land in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1773 on the north branches of the Dan River for 20 shillings. William was named executor of John Yates estate (Hannah's father) about 1778. William bought 250 acres of land in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1784 on the north side of the Dan River for one pound and five shillings sterling. This land adjoins his own property and that of John Ware and William Wilson. William died intestate, therefore, no will. Most, if not all, of William's children are mentioned in a land transaction record (rec'd 6-20-1803; Pittsylvania Deeds 13:320)where each sold his or her share of the estate to Josiah, the youngest son of William. This is the only verification of the children of William Shelton, Sr. and Hannah Yates. Also on Aug. 13, 1803 John & Elijah sold their portions to Josiah(recorded Jan. 16, 1804; Pittsylvania deeds 13:538). (SEE LAND RECORDS UNDER MISC. RECORDS ON MAIN PAGE) | ||||||||||||||||||
